"Trent you did not just do what I think you did," Tommy Malloy said to his brother.
Trent nodded. "Yeah I did. I signed you up to be a judge at the martial arts championships up here."
"Why?!" Tommy said as he grabbed his suitcase off the luggage cart.
"Give you something to do, I guess," Carlos Sandoval replied as he caught up with his friends.
Tommy rolled his eyes and said, "I can't believe you did that to me, Trent."
"Well Carlos is right, you need something to do up here besides get involved in whatever..." Trent noticed his little brother wasn't paying attention. "Tommy?"
"I think I'm in love," the younger man said quietly, staring across the airport.
Trent and Carlos looked in the direction Tommy was looking and saw a young woman who looked to be about sixteen standing next to the door with a bag in her hand. She had auburn hair, green eyes, and a faint sprinkling of freckles.
"I'm gonna go talk to her," Tommy said, walking towards her.
"Tommy get back here!" Trent yelled, but it was too late, Tommy was long gone.
Alicia Allen sighed. Ever since her big sister Phaedra had taken that private investigator job up here, she had been forced to come up here every summer. She hated it so much, but....
"Excuse me," said a voice.
Alicia looked up and felt her heart almost stop beating. Standing in front of her was a young man with blue eyes, and curly dark blonde hair.
"Yeah?" she asked softly.
"My name's Tommy, and I uh..." Tommy was suddenly at a loss for words.
Alicia smiled and said, "I get that reaction from every guy I meet, so it's normal for me."
"Y-you do?" Tommy said.
Alicia nodded just as a voice yelled, "Tommy, let's go already!"
"I'll be there in a minute Trent!" Tommy yelled back. He shook his head and said, "Brothers...can't live with 'em...."
"....Can't disown 'em if they get on your nerves," Alicia finished. Tommy nodded and Alicia continued, "My sister Phaedra's like that. Ever since she took that PI job up here..."
"Your sister's a private investigator?" Tommy said.
Alicia nodded and said, "Yeah."
"Phaedra Allen, right?"
"How'd you know?" Alicia stared at him and said, "Oh man...you're Trent Malloy's little brother aren't you? She said he was bringing his brother, but I didn't know you were this cute.." She realized what she'd just said and blushed almost as red as her shirt.
Suddenly the moment was broken by
a gunshot coming from outside. Tommy and Alicia turned around then Tommy
shoved her to the floor and dropped down next to her.
PART TWO
"Tommy what's going on?" Alicia asked, trying not to cry.
Tommy squeezed her hand and said, "I don't know but my brother'll get me out of this.....I hope."
Just then a woman walked into the airport with a rifle in her hand. She glanced at Tommy and Alicia and said, "Get up....both of you." The two teenagers did what they were told and the woman said, "Get outside."
Tommy and Alicia nodded and walked outside and looked around.
"I know her," Alicia whispered. "My sister's been after her for years."
"Who is it?" Tommy whispered back. "Her name's Cassidy Maxwell," Alicia said. "She's sweet-talked her way out of every mental hospital in Alaska and Washington." Tommy nodded as the woman, who had dark frizzy hair and blue eyes, walked back out.
"Get in the car," she told them.
Tommy and Alicia did what they were told and stayed quiet the whole trip.
*Some trip this is turning out to be,* Tommy thought. He slipped an arm around Alicia's shoulders and pulled her into his arms for a hug when she started crying.
"Dammit!" Phaedra Allen said as she approached Trent and Carlos. "She got my sister!"
"And my brother, too, don't forget," Trent said, then got a good look at her. *Oh my God,* he thought. He finally realized how his brother felt when he saw Alicia.
Phaedra tucked a strand of dark auburn hair behind her ear as she thought. "Now where will she have taken them?" Then, turning to the guys. she said, "Some introduction to your first case in Alaska, huh?"
"Yeah," Carlos said. "Is she the reason you wanted us up here?"
Phaedra nodded and said, "Come on
I'll tell you everything when I get to my office."
PART THREE
Tommy and Alicia were locked in a pitch dark room. They couldn't even see their hands in front of their faces it was so dark.
"Tommy?"
"Yeah Alicia?" The girl paused before she spoke.
"You think we're gonna get out of here?"
Tommy sighed and said, "I hope so." Suddenly the door opened and the teenagers were blinded by the light that poured in.
"You," Cassidy said, pointing at Alicia. "Come on." She went to drag the younger woman to her feet, but Tommy's eyes adjusted to the light just in time.
"I don't think so!" he yelled, scrambling to his feet and delivering a kick that sent Cassidy stumbling backwards into the wall. "Come on!" he said to Alicia, pulling her to her feet. Alicia followed Tommy out the door and down the hall.
"They're getting away!" they heard Cassidy yell. Alicia shoved Tommy into a dark crevice in the wall, and ducked in behind him as a few of Cassidy's guards ran past. When she was sure they wouldn't come back, Alicia pulled Tommy to his feet and they crept to the nearest door. Alicia pulled it open... ...only to find it blocked by ten feet of snow.
"Dammit..." she whispered. "We're snowed in." She gave Tommy a desperate look as she said, "Now what?"
"Hmmm...." Tommy thought for a second but his thoughts were interrupted by footsteps drawing closer. "Oh no," he said. "Shut the door and run!"
"But Tommy..." Alicia said.
Tommy shook his head and said, "Just go, I'll be right behind you!" He gave her a quick kiss on the cheek and pushed her in the other direction. "Get out of here! Find a phone and call your sister!"
Alicia nodded and ran in the other direction, in search of a phone.
Meanwhile, Trent, Phaedra, and Carlos were in Phaedra's office, going over Cassidy Maxwell's files when the phone rang.
Phaedra picked it up. "Hello?.....Alicia, where the hell are you?....uh huh....okay....get back there and help him, we'll find you!" She quickly scribbled something down on a piece of paper, then grabbed her car keys and her jacket and said, "Come on! We gotta save Tommy and Alicia!"
"Where are they?" Trent asked as he and Caros grabbed their coats and followed Phaedra out to her Chevy Blazer.
"In an abandoned warehouse on the other side of town. They're snowed in and Tommy's holding off the guards all by himself!" Phaedra said as she started the engine and the guys got in.
"That is not good," Trent commented. When Phaedra gave the blond man a puzzled look, Trent explained all about Tommy's temper. "He's gonna be lucky if he doesn't get himself AND your sister killed."
Back at the warehouse, Tommy was holding off four guards at once. He glared at all of them and said, "That the best you can do?"
"Tommy!!" Alicia yelled, running back into the room. "I got a hold of my sister, she's on her way!" Then she glared at the guards and said, "If you know what's good for you, you'll leave us alone."
"Oh yeah?" one of the guards said sarcastically. "Why?"
"Because if you don't, Tommy and I will kick your butts clear to Mars." She dropped into a fighting stance and glanced at Tommy. "Ready?" she said.
"What do you think?" Tommy said.
Alicia smirked then said, "Go for it!"
With that, she and Tommy went to work. Alicia dove into a roll as one of the guards went to shoot at her, grabbing a pipe along the way. She quickly got around behind him and hit him over the head with it before he could turn around. He was out cold before he could hit the floor.
Meanwhile, Tommy was keeping the other three guards busy. He wasn't doing too well, but....
"Tommy!!" yelled Trent as he, Carlos and Phaedra ran into the room. Alicia looked up at the wrong moment, and got knocked out by one of the guards attacking Tommy.
"Drop it guys," Phaedra said as she and Carlos held guns on the guards while Trent and Tommy went to help Alicia.
"Is she going to be okay?" Trent said quietly as he and his brother looked over Alicia.
"I---I don't know..." Tommy said, noticing a little trickle of blood running down the side of Alicia's head from where it was cut when the guard hit her. "She better make it, 'cause if she doesn't..." He didn't voice the rest of his sentence.
"Come on," Trent said as Phaedra and Carlos cuffed Cassidy and the guards. "Let's get her to the hospital."
Tommy nodded silently as he helped
his brother pick up the unconscious girl.
PART FOUR
Thunder Karate - three months later
Tommy had never been this depressed in his life. He missed Alicia like crazy, and he wondered why the hell Trent wasn't this bummed out over Phaedra.
"Because," Trent said, "We went out on one date then decided to stay friends...which is more than I can say for..."
"Shut it Malloy," a female voice from the door said, then another said, "Hey Tommy, did you miss me?"
Tommy looked up to see Phaedra standing in the door, with Alicia looking over her shoulder.
"Miss you? That's an understatement!" Tommy said as he went to give Alicia a hug. "What are you guys doing here?"
"We moved here," Phaedra said.
"Moved...here...?" Tommy said, in major shock.
Alicia nodded and said, "she just got me registered at the high school...when's your math class?"
"Seventh period."
"Mine too! Who's your teacher?" Alicia said.
"Mr. Jamison," Tommy answered.
Alicia's face lit up as she said, "We have the same math class!"
"Cool!" Tommy said. Everybody sat
down and started catching up on events of the past three months after that.
